"MATA TUMI HE - DIVINE MOTHER, COME TO ME"

One of the tenderest and most profound bhajans (sung prayers) offered to God in the Hindu tradition is the rendition of the eternal song of the human heart, "O Lord, come to me!" In typical Bengali fashion, the prayer is asking not only for every manifestation of God to come, but also for every Godly virtue that man can achieve. Thus we hear: "Priya tumi - Love come to me, Shanti tumi - Peace come to me, Dharma tumi - Righteousness come to me."

This yearning to draw nearer to God is a universal theme throughout all religions. Thus, the Holy Bible literally ends with this supplication. The last book of the Bible, the Book of Revelations within the Gospel according to St. John, closes with an earnest prayer of the Apostle to Jesus. After describing the revelations of all the heavenly regions in the most esoteric language found within th entire Bible, St. John beeches the Lord with a prayer comprised of one word.

He says: "Therefore Lord Jesus, "COME!". In the more modern publications of the Bible, this prayer is expanded into two words. This is, after retrospection of the state of our 'modern times', a needed improvement. Now we find the plea to the Lord to: "COME QUICKLY!"
